Robert Phelan
Sales Executive
Robert Phelan was born and raised in Rockville Centre, New York. After a very active childhood of school, athletics and summers on the beaches of Long Island, Robert attended St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vermont. Robert played Varsity Lacrosse while attending St. Michael’s and graduated in 1987 with a degree in Business Administration.
Upon completion of his studies in 1987, Robert traveled extensively and began his professional career in 1988 on Wall Street, taking a position as a phone clerk with a Member Firm on the floor of The Commodities Exchange Inc. Robert spent the next three years in various capacities learning the commodities markets and, in 1990, leased a seat on the floor of the exchange and traded for his own account.
In July of 1991, Robert accepted an offer to join Citation Financial group as an Institutional Salesman. In this capacity, Robert interacted daily with large Pension Fund Managers, Mutual Fund Managers, Insurance Companies and Investment Management Firms and advised them on various investment opportunities in the bond market.
In September of 1993, Robert accepted a job offer from Salomon Smith Barney and relocated to Charleston, SC. Sensing an opportunity, Robert successfully focused his business on the corporate 401(k) retirement plan market and worked with several large and well-known Charleston employers.
Robert joined Kiawah Island Real Estate as a Sales Associate in August of 2000. He is an avid golfer (currently a 4 handicap) and lives in Bay View Acres subdivision in Mt. Pleasant. He has a 12 year-old son named Andrew and is very active in St. Andrews Church in the Old Village section of Mt. Pleasant.
